Couple on MotorcycleThe summertime tends to bring with it an increase in motorcycle accidents. This is the case because the warm weather tends to lead to increased motorcycle traffic on the roads. Following these simple safety tips could make riding both safer and more enjoyable.
  1. Wear Protective Clothing and Equipment: Many motorcycle riders put on jeans or boots once they ride, but there are other important products you should think about by using this season. Gloves can protect hands from both windburn and accidents. Although it may appear to be too warm for any jacket, many leather manufactures have designed jackets which have breathable pockets to keep motorcycle riders comfortable and road rash-free.
  2. Wear a DOT Helmet: Some states don't have a motorcycle helmet law, but wearing one while riding could save your life. DOT helmets won't last forever, though. They should be replaced following a fall or after a couple of years because of safety material degradation.
  3. Inspect Your Motorcycle: Even if your motorcycle appears to be running perfectly, a walkaround safety should be carried out before you ride. Be certain that all lights are operational, especially signals, headlights and brake lights. The better visibility you have on the road, the safer you'll be. Additionally, check beneath your motorcycle for fluid leaks that could cause tire skid outs, particularly in wet weather. Periodically look at your tire pressure, which could improve handling capacity and reduce excessive wear to your tires and suspension system.
  4. Keep Calm: Frequently, car or truck drivers cause accidents simply because they did not see a motorcycle on the road. A close call can cause you anxiety, but don't forget to help keep a steady mind and steer clear of aggressive driving.
Have a great riding season. And don't forget, ride safe!
